During my teaching years at St Martins, I taught not only Graphics and Illustration, but Serigraphy also. The old Charing Cross Road studios were filled with long tables for both repeat-patterned fabric printing and large-sized screen prints on paper using fixed frames. I experimented with many kinds of templates, papers and the possibilities provided by fabulously coloured inks ~ both full strength and thinned to translucency for overprinted effects; sharply cut and rough-edged; wet and dry. Using ideas gathered from many years of sketching rock formations and stone walls in the US, and themes drawn from the Signs of the Zodiac, I completed a portfolio of a dozen A1 multi-coloured abstract silk-screen prints (in small editions) over the next several years. There are a few left ~ colours still as intense as they first appeared half-a-century ago!
