I have carried sketchbooks with me on my travels around the world for more than half a century. Big or small, they are always there in my bag along with pens, ink, a twist of salt (or a packet of cafe sugar), a candle ~ and sometimes a few tubes of gouache or watercolour. It takes only the most basic drawing kit to record the world in all its richness and variety.
